COLD SORES

Cold sores, also known as fever blisters, are a common viral infection that causes small, fluid-filled blisters to form on or around the lips. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1), which is highly contagious and can be easily transmitted through contact with an infected person's saliva.

SYMPTOMS

Small, painful, fluid-filled blisters on or around the lips, which can also appear on the chin or cheeks. Tingling, burning, or itching sensation in the affected area before the blisters appear. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck or other areas of the body. Fever and fatigue, particularly during the initial outbreak.

TREATMENT

Your provider at Skin Care Specialists will plan a customized treatment plan for you that may include Topical antiviral creams or ointments, such as acyclovir or penciclovir, which can help to speed up the healing process and reduce the severity of symptoms. Pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen to help alleviate discomfort. Keeping the affected area clean and dry to prevent further infection or irritation. Avoiding close contact with others, particularly during an active outbreak, to prevent the spread of the virus.
