IMPETIGO

A common and highly contagious bacterial skin infection that most commonly affects children. It is caused by a type of bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes, and can occur anywhere on the body.

SYMPTOMS

Red sores or blisters that may burst and develop a yellow-brown crust, itching, burning, swollen lymph nodes and in some cases, a fever.

TREATMENT

Your provider at Skin Care Specialists will plan a customized treatment plan for you that may include antibiotics that can be in a topical or oral form. Depending on the severity and the location of the infection, drainage of larger blisters or sires may also be necessary. There might be some self-care strategies that can help manage these symptoms as well including keeping the area clean and dry to prevent the spreading of infection.
