Tinea versicolor, also known as pityriasis versicolor, is a fungal skin infection that is caused by an overgrowth of yeast on the skin. The condition is characterized by patches of discolored skin that can be lighter or darker than the surrounding skin, usually on the back, chest, neck, and upper arms. These patches may be itchy or scaly and can become more noticeable with sun exposure.

Tinea versicolor is not contagious, and is usually not a serious condition, but it can be frustrating for those who have it.
